1 BHK Superbar – Super se bhi Upar!

1 BHK Superbar, Baner!
They serve only Halal meats.
Cost for 2 – Rs 1700/-

I usually fall sick once a year, sometimes it holds off even longer, but when it comes, it hits me like a freight train. This time was different, very different. And these medical abnormalities kept me away from my one true love, for a while, but yes, they did. My father, for the wise man that he was, always told me, never let something dull you. As a boy I didn’t understand what he meant, but I am finally starting to understand it as a man! So here I am, back. Back to eating, writing and sharing!

I know it’s been a while and so I present to you my experience at one of the most exquisite restaurants in Pune – 1 BHK Super Bar! It sure is super, for I haven’t visited a place as cool in the IT city for years. Read up before you dine out!

It also gives me great pleasure to share that I was officially the first food writer to visit this beast of a place, beast, Yes! Huge and beautiful in its own skin, for what I’d heard of this place and for what I saw is a story in itself. Artistic interiors which have you in a state of awe and the facts behind the scenes that make you fall for it even harder! That’s 1 BHK Super Bar for you. And the men behind it, one of them Mr Rajat Grover, a man of several talents, one out of which makes him the true food connoisseur, also a Delhiite! Well I am sure you know where this is heading. Good, no Great food and some awesome stories.

1 BHK – (BAR-HAUTE-KITCHEN) a unit of Plentos Ventures is a high energy super bar which separates the tapas and dining section and is designed for easy interaction with guests.

Walk up to this beautiful place and you’ll be taken in for a surprise, a relatively new concept in Pune, “Fish-n-drink” has been introduced at 1 BHK. What’s that you ask? Well! You take a fishing net and with some local help, fish for your bottle of wine! Oh yes, that’s how they want you to do, remember and cherish it! Once you’re done you can have you’re bottle stacked in the “Wall of Wines”, that’s what they call it and by God they’ve called it well.

The remarkable high level is where the walk in tapas section is, right next to which is the high energy bar, if you remember I mentioned it’s a Super bar! A dedicated smoking room, not seen in a lot of restaurants or clubs, here in our beloved IT town! Oh and it consists of a high tech filtering system which is filtered every 18 hours, because health!

The food at 1 BHK Super bar is undoubtedly extraordinary and exactly the way I prefer it and so are the drinks. The non-drinker that I am, I preferred the “Liquid Paan”, the most talked about non-alcoholic drink in that part of town to start with. A betel leaf, Rose petal jam, I’d rather call it as it is, “Gulqand” and loads of refreshment. That’s all it takes to make this twisted Indian drink! Well flavored, well favored!

Butter Chicken Nazza (Naz-za)

I’ve had a “Naanza” before, but here at 1 BHK Super bar, Mr Rajat made me try the “Nazza” and I thought to myself, “What the hell is the difference? And then I found out that the difference is what makes me recommend this, the difference is what makes me crave for it, and the difference is what makes it the most desirable Butter Chicken Nazza you can ever have.

1 BHK King Non Veg Mezze Platter, with Seafood

Quite a mouthful, ain’t it? Well wait until I tell you what it consists of. The humongous platter right from dips to kebabs and chick peas to prawns, oh and white date chocolate too! Not getting it? Let me enlist it for you.

Beetroot Hummus (Yeah, that’s different)

Baba Ganoush

Kebabs – Lamb & Chicken

Potato Wedges

Grilled Prawns

Roasted Almonds

Pickled vegetables

Just the sight of this beasty platter makes one salivate, I actually tried all of it and craved for more! True to its name, the king platter deserves all the accolades.

My folks know me now, and the ones, who read me often or have been with me, know this, I am a ravenous carnivore! That’s why I keep away from vegetarian stuff almost all the time. When Rajat asked me to try the garlic mushrooms with Pita bread, I was skeptical, yet I gave it a shot and trust me I called for a second helping, oh wait, I also asked him for a take away! Cream, mushrooms, herbs and pita! That’s a match made in heaven! Go ahead, try it, and thank me later!

Heard of first encounters? At times they can be interesting! Just like mine with “Pollo Alla Cacciatora”

A lot of vegetables, yes, but as always meat comes to the rescue, if not, chicken helps! The spinach along with mashed potatoes does the trick, a decent pairing.

Grilled Jon Dory with Almond rosemary dressing!

I’ve loved John Dory with all my heart, for it’s the fish with the least barbs and is considered as the most delicious fish at the table. You might want to try it, though I feel everyone has their own tastes.

When was the last time I had the actual butter chicken? In Pune city? What if I tell you I didn’t? Trust me I didn’t! Pune didn’t have it, until now, that is.

I’ll tell you where you get the actual Butter Chicken; the first is at Moti Mahal of Greater Kailas, next is at Moet’s Defense Colony, Delhi and the next best is available at ITC Maurya Bukhara, oh and also at the road side stall called Chawla’s! India 1 wala Butter Chicken is what is served at 1 BHK, with Sirka Pyaaz (Onion dripped in vinegar). It ain’t tangy, it ain’t runny, and it’s exactly how a butter chicken should be! It sure is India 1 wala butter chicken!

They serve a few, a very few desserts for now but what they serve is genius for plenty of reasons! I didn’t have much room for desserts but I did have room for a culinary masterpiece! 1 BHK Blueberry Philadelphia Cheese cake!

Sweet beginnings, sweeter endings! The cheese cake dates back over 4000 years to ancient Greece but even today getting it right needs artistic integrity! All I would want to say is, here at 1 BHK they got it just right.

Also, 1 BHK has been breaking many stereotypes, another one being, there’s no dance floor in this Super bar, and you get on the table, literally and let your hair down! A new concept and I am sure Pune is going to welcome this change! Rajat is old school; probably that’s what has got him thus far! I look up to such men, I look up to what they’ve built, I look up to what they get to the table, oh and this blog is not about Rajat alone, it’s about his baby and it’s about the team that put it together, it’s about 1 BHK Super bar!
