Restaurant Name: Baraza Bars & Bites
Address: Ishanya Mall Rd, Maharashtra Housing Board, Shastrinagar, Yerawada, Pune, Maharashtra 411006
Timings: 5:00 PM to 1:30 AM
They serve only HALAL meats.
A wonky but heartfelt theory I have about “Baraza Bars & Bites” is that it is actually more suited to elite and the true connoisseurs of spirits (which I am not) and all things drinkable which are mixed perfectly. And in a parallel universe, without such skillful mixologists like Pranav Mody, who weaves his magic wand and digs out some refreshing combinations for teetotalers like me, there wouldn’t be many island themed bars out there that will quench your thirst just like “Baraza Bars & Bites” which is located at Ishanya mall, Yerwada, Pune.
But the fabulous thing about eating in Pune these days is that no territory is truly off limits. All cuisines are blossoming here in several different ways and so are the heady mixes of various drinks.
With Chef Irfan Pabaney and Rachel Goenka’s “Baraza Bars & Bites” the Pune food scene for sure is getting hotter and chillier for that matter. Here’s presenting my larger than life Baraza experience!
Baraza – A Bar above Mixology
The changing preferences of consumers drive the food service industry, ingredients and menu items that were popular one year may not be the next. And speaking of drinks, Baraza Bars & Bites is one Glug Street and is truly a bar above Mixology, thanks to Mr Pranav Mody, here’s a list of five off beat shooters and non alcoholic drinks in the range of passable to must haves!
- Cosmic Bubble (Rating – 2/5)
As innovative as it looked with candy floss and a dash of citrus, the cosmic bubbe sadly didn’t amuse me.
- Coffee Cooler (Rating – 3/5)
Bitter sweet mocktails are not my thing, but the espresso content in this drink made me want some more of it, really strong and deserves a heads up, yet not something which blew my mind but truly had me intrigued.
- Cilantro & Ginger Mojito (Rating – 3/5)
They did a good job by replacing the mint with cilantro, the refreshing Cuban cilantro and ginger concoction sure is delicious. A sweet, fruity and earthy drink is how I would describe it as.
- Paan Banarsi wala (Rating – 4/5)
A very cool and refreshing summer drink made with betel leaves, lime, brown sugar and candied gulkand. Very balanced flavors which help you unwind and get high without the consumption alcohol. A highly recommended drink if you’re a sweet lover like I am.
- Virgin Berry Khatta Slush (Rating – 5/5)
A non alcoholic drink for everyone, I am already in love with the very berry khatta served at The SassySpoon and when Pranav served me his icy take on the very berry khatta, I couldn’t help but oblige. Loved it to the core and I am going back for this one for sure.
The Platter at Baraza
The food menu at Baraza Bars & Bites is unlike what’s offered at “Bars” for that matter, the menu is rather extensive and is a delectable mix of Asian cuisines including the vegetarian fare which is curated specially by Chef Irfan Pabaney.
- Rava Paniyarram
Much against my routine, I started my evening at Baraza with a vegetarian dish which is an idli look alike and a very quick, healthy and a delicious appetizer. Black lentils and rice in the base with a curry leaf tadka. I tried, I liked and I recommend.
- American corn tempura with chili and spinach
For a simple yet delicious vegetarian corny appetizer, the American corn tempura surely comes out with flying colors. The sriracha mayo does wonders to the corn kernels and yes, it deserves a mention on my blog.
- Stir fried crispy fish
I really don’t know what fish was that, actually forgot to check with the chef but trust me the subtle flavors with a hint of curry leaves that was lent to this dish was out of this world. The corn again with a dollop of sour cream made it a fabulous combination.
- Stir fried Pepper Lamb
I hear lamb and I go crazy but the stir fried pepper lamb here was served in a crispy noodle basket, wasn’t succulent but supple. The feedback was instantly taken by chef Irfan and I am sure it will be looked after.
- Tawa seared Fish Tikka with raw Mango chutney
An exotic twist to our fish, spicy and delicious, paired best with raw mango chutney. Me Likey!
- Chicken Ghee Roast
How can you not try this dish when the culinary genius Chef Irfan recommends? A popular mangalorean dish which uses spices and clarified butter to roast the chicken, an easy, delicious, flavorful, soft, juicy ghee roasted chicken served with some kulchas on the side. A perfect main!
I have a sweet tooth, I love desserts and if somebody makes me one, I am going to have it! Chef made me a dozen of them, here’s a list of the ones I loved!
Flour less Chocolate cake with basil pine nut ice cream and salted caramel
A wicked combination indeed but truly enticing! Made from aerated chocolate custard and made to perfection. A dense cake paired beautifully with a luscious and humble frozen dessert.
Nutella Crème brulee with pistachio and almond biscotti
Burnt cream at its best, a French classic with vanilla cream and caramelized sugar, and the nutella in it sure made the crème brulee worth all the attention but the nutty bars didn’t work out for me.
Churros with chocolate sauce and snicker chunk ice cream
My new favorite dessert and here’s why,
Warm and flaky dough sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar served with chocolate sauce and snicker chunk ice cream, what more can one ask for? Sheer indulgence!
