Wild Sugar Patisserie and Café – Let’s Bake a better world!

How often do you discover a place which exceeds your expectations? A place serving appetizing and flavorsome food and the best desserts at one of the most sought after locations in the city. Without a doubt, Wild Sugar Patisserie and Café is THAT place!

I was recently invited to Wild Sugar Patisserie and Café for a tasting by the chief squeeze at Pomelo Social, Mr Sasha Anand and I am glad I accepted the invite.

The minute you arrive at this warm patisserie cum cafe, you are greeted with the enchanting aroma of fresh breads and bakes. Moreover, their wide food display gently tempts you to order everything that you can see in the first glance. Comforting interiors and a breezy Al fresco area makes you fall in love with this property.

Salted Caramel

If you need a chocolate infusion (and really, who doesn’t?), this delectable Chocolate Brownie Milkshake is for you. Chocolate ice cream is blended with crumbled brownies, milk and chocolate syrup. Yes, this is chocolate heaven in a straw! Also the Apple mint Mojito is an all star, easy to follow glass full of pure refreshment.

Light Bites

1) Vegetable Arancini / Chicken Arancini balls

2) Chicken Tempura

3) BBQ Chicken Wings

BBQ Chicken Wings

The carnivore in me just doesn’t let me settle for veggies and hence the humble chef Ajay made me some chicken arancini balls and boy, I was overwhelmed. Crisp rice balls with delicate, juicy cheese stuffing inside, that’s chicken arancini balls for you! The batter for the tempura was light and went really well with the spicy mayo. I really liked it and would want to try it again.

BBQ Chicken Wings: Game day or any day, BBQ wings are always a winner; the in house BBQ sauce gave it just the proper tang and I fell head over heels for them. It’s a must try dish at Wild Sugar.

Salads

1) Koshimbir Salad

2) Apple, Pear + Walnut Salad

Koshimbir Salad

Apple, pear and Walnut Salad

Koshimbir Salad: A salad with a belgavi twist, a surprise to be honest, never knew I’d like something of that sort, fresh and crunchy vegetables with soaked moong dal, you’ve got to try it to believe it. The Apple, Pear and Walnut salad again took me by surprise; this didn’t have any feta but mascarpone and it tasted heavenly.

Ciazzas

Spicy Mutton, Egg + Cheddar

Spicy mutton, egg and Cheddar Ciazza
Tomato basil + Mozzarella

I loved everything about this sandwich, what’s not to like? Bread, eggs, melted cheese, butter, minced meat, it’s a perfect sandwich! Wild Sugar is very consistent with the ciazzas, I’ve tried it before as well and I can vouch for this oval shaped ciabatta.

The Breadish Conection

1) Chicken Pita Pocket

2) Harissa Chicken + Egg Panini

Chicken Pita Pocket

Harissa chicken and egg Panini

Pita bread bulging with slow roasted chicken, lettuce in mayonnaise, flavor enriched and accompanied with perfectly fried finger chips. I am salivating even while describing it.

The Harissa Chicken and egg Panini was a letdown as I felt the bread was too dry, the flavors lacked a punch, the feedback has been passed to the humble chef and I am sure he will take good care of it hence.

Pastas

1) Three Cheese Pasta

2) Spaghetti Meatball

Spaghetti Meatball

3 Cheese Pasta

Coming to Pastas we tried the three cheese pasta which was a tad salty but then again I believe it’s the different cheeses which gave it that flavor, chef said it consisted of Monterey jack, Parmesan and mozzarella cheese. Well, are the cheese lovers reading?

The Spaghetti meatball on the other hand was a bowl of Italian comfort. I was way too full to try more than a morsel.

Desserts

1) Red Velvet Cream Cheese

2) Coffee Hazelnut

3) Pistachio and Strawberry Cake

4) Raspberry Cheese Cake

5) Strawberry Bavarian Mousse

Alright so here’s a long list and why wouldn’t it be? Wild Sugar patisserie and Café is house to 180 different desserts. The satiated me still tried a couple of desserts before returning home drugged by the glucose content.

Until now I believed that the red velvet pastry is the Katrina kaif of confectionery which has such awesome looks and zero acting skills, (Acting skills here refer to the taste) but Wild Sugar proved me wrong, the red velvet pastry here was as brilliant as kangana Ranaut. Oh so delicious! 😉

My pick among the others was the pistachio and strawberry cake, there’s something wonderful about this cake and I realized this when I picked it up, the chef’s eyes brightened and he said that’s my favorite. Well!

I also tried the coffee hazelnut, raspberry cheesecake and the strawberry Bavarian mousse which were again out of this world.

Gazellig is a Dutch word which means cozy, inviting, fun, a place where one can spend time with loved ones. Wild Sugar Patisserie and Café is THAT place!
